When danger gets too close… Virginia opossum doesn’t fight back. It dies. Or at least… pretends to. Its body goes stiff, the tongue hangs out, and it releases a horrible rotten smell to convince predators it’s already dead. This isn’t acting, it’s an involuntary survival response called thanatosis. Some possums can stay like this for hours. Nature really turned panic into a full performance.
